AIMETA Members

AIMETA consists now of 300 members whose scientific activity is organized through five sections: General mechanics, Fluid mechanics, Machine mechanics, Solid mechanics, Structure mechanics. To become a member of AIMETA, anyone working in the wide context of Mechanics has to apply to the Council.
The members participate in the activities of AIMETA through meetings (of the Groups), the annual Assembly and, foremost, through the biennial National Congress. The members elect the Council every four years.
The annual membership fee entitles any member to receive freely the journal Meccanica. In 2009 the membership fee is: 90 euro for individual members, 250 euro for Institutions (libraries, departments, research centers), 30 euro for PhD students.

Assembly

The assembly is organized every year. On the occasion of the National Congress, the Assembly takes place within the Congress. Otherwise a proper place is chosen.

Congress

In 2009 the National Congress takes place in Ancona (Faculty of Engineering), September 14 to 17.

What is AIMETA

As can be found in the foreword of the first issue of Meccanica, 1966, AIMETA gathers researchers on any branches of Mechanics: theoretical, experimental, technical, and operative. Anyone shows his personal mentality, according to his/her main educational and professional activity, but all find a common interest on Mechanics, a very wide science, paradise of mathematical sciences, as Leonardo was saying, but also foundation of every physical science. Mechanics is meant in a wide sense, as Newton was saying, "scientia motum, qui ex viribus quibuscumque resultant, et virium quae ad motus quoscunque requiruntur". More generally, as Kirchhoff was saying, the "complete description of motion occurring in nature" or, according to Einstein, "Geometry of space-time". In this sense, in AIMETA it is difficult to find a boundary between Rational mechanics and Mathematical physics, Applied mechanics, Solid and structure mechanics, Fluid mechanics, Aerodynamics. AIMETA aims at making a bridge towards researchers working in fields new and near to the traditional ones. For instance, the Groups of Biomechanics and Mechanics of materials are an indication of this aim of AIMETA.
Through meetings and the journal Meccanica, the association aims at establishing contacts between researchers who operate in different contexts but whose joint work may result in new achievements for the wide realm of Mechanics.
